The Philadelphia Eagles are still rewarding the team that won the Super Bowl the previous season.
The Eagles declared on Monday that they had signed Lane Johnson to a one-year contract extension. The All-Pro tackle’s deal is extended until 2027 thanks to the extra year.
The Eagles went above and beyond to give Johnson, one of their most valuable players, an early extension, much like they did with Saquon Barkley.
The Eagles reportedly adjusted the final two years of Johnson’s current contract to offer him more money in addition to the extra year. He was expected to earn little less than $40 million over the next two seasons, $17.4 million in 2025 and $22.4 million in 2021. With $40 million guaranteed, that amount has been increased to $48 million over the following two years.

For years, Johnson, who turns 35 before the upcoming season begins, has publicly pondered the prospect of retiring. Just prior to last month’s Super Bowl, Johnson addressed the subject once more, telling Eagles supporters that he intended to stay for at least another season.
There was no reason for the Eagles to extend Johnson so far into the future, considering how he seems to be handling things year by year. Johnson has been with the organization since 2013, so Philly probably made the transaction out of respect and gratitude for him.
