Oleksandr Usyk opines that Tyson Fury is trying hard to be a copy of Muhammad Ali, but is a bad copy of the boxing legend.
The king doesn’t need to shout that he’s the king: Oleksandr Usyk
The ongoing negotiations for an undisputed title fight between Fury and Usyk fell apart, and the Ukrainian has finally broken the silence on how things didn’t work out at the end with the Briton.
“I see that nothing is happening, he is trying to play with us, and I told him: ‘That’s it, goodbye’,” said Usyk in a recent interview with Ukrainian media outlet Volodymyr Kobelkov. “He wants to copy Muhammad Ali, but it’s a bad copy.”
Usyk thinks that with his statement and posture game, “The G tries to imitate what Muhammad Ali did, although he considers that he is doing it wrong.
“He says, ’70/30, I am the king. It’s all thanks to me.’ I don’t respond to that. I understand that this is mind games,” he went on, “The king is the king. And the king does not need to shout that he is the king.”
Fury continues to reign as the WBC champion. For his part, “The Cat” currently holds the WBA, WBO, and IBF belts and has been ordered by the WBA to face the mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois, a fight which Usyk was already willing for and is even ready to travel offshore to the UK.
“It will probably be Daniel Dubois at the end of the summer,” added Usyk. “I will go to the UK. I love it very much. My first big wins were in the UK. Anthony Joshua. I like it here, I like the fans, the people.” [H/T Marca]
