One of the contenders for the title of NBA Greatest of All Time is Stephen Curry. Theo Pinson claims that the Golden State Warriors player is not the best point guard of all time, despite the fact that he single-handedly changed the game and is one of the cornerstones of the NBA’s current era.
Curry’s argument to be the greatest of all time is compelling. He is a four-time NBA champion, MVP of the 2015 and 2016 seasons, MVP of the 2022 Finals, an 11-time All-Star, and the recipient of many other honors. Even if LeBron James and Michael Jordan are at the top of the list, Curry is capable of challenging both of them.
At point guard, the majority of pundits rank Curry even higher than greats like Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas. For an unpopular but significant reason, Pinson—who is most renowned for the 2017 NCAA title he earned with North Carolina—removed Curry from the list of the greatest point guards of all time.
Is Curry the PG GOAT?
“The greatest point guard of all time,” Pinson said candidly in an interview with the podcast “To The Baha,” is not the Warriors’ star. Although he is the greatest shooter of all time, I don’t consider Stephen Curry to be a point guard.” Why? His shoot-first approach does not align with the conventional point guard role.

In support of Pinson’s viewpoint, panelist Tyler Relph stated, “I don’t put him in the point guard mold because I don’t think he plays like a Chris Paul or like Isiah Thomas or Magic Johnson.”
In this context, Pinson reiterated his belief that Curry’s height makes him a point guard in the eyes of observers and fans.
“They say he’s a point guard because he’s short,” Pinson said, “If he wasn’t short,” he wouldn’t be considered a point guard.
