Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Gabriel Magalhães, the Brazilian defender who previously played for Lille OSC in the French Ligue 1. The Gunners were on the pursuit for the youngster during the transfer window, and have finally landed him at the Emirates, winning the race against the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Napoli and fellow PL side Manchester United.

Gabriel Magalhães joins Arsenal on a ‘long term’ contract, as the club officially stated on their website on Tuesday. The transfer fee is £27 million, split up as £23.40 million up front and the rest as future add ons.
“LONDON IS RED ⚪️🔴🤩” the player tweeted on Tuesday evening.

Gabriel has been Arsenal’s highest bid in this summer window, following the £7.20 million signing of Spanish centre back Pablo Marí, who was on a loan spell at north London from Flamengo in the last season.
The 22 year old has made 7 international appearance for the U20 Brazil team, and was part of the squad at the 2017 South American U-20 Championship.
Joining his fellow Samba superstar Willian, who arrived from Chelsea on a free transfer last month, as well as club veteran David Luiz, Gabriel went on a video call with his compatriots following his arrival.

A player of high quality: Arsenal delighted to land Gabriel
A youth product of Brazilian side Avaí FC, Gabriel Magalhães joined Lille in 2017. He has made 39 appearance for the Dogues, and has scored in 2 occasions.
During his three year stint at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Gabriel went on a couple loan spells to fellow French side Troyes and Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia.

“We are delighted to have signed Gabriel,” said Arsenal’s technical director Edu Gaspar following the move.
“He is a player we have been studying for a while and he was in demand from many clubs, so we are proud to have agreed and completed this transfer with Lille and the player,” Edu added.
Gabriel will partner up with William Saliba, Arsenal’s star signing from last year who is returning from a loan spell at AS Saint-Étienne, as the gaffer Mikel Arteta focuses on a youthful approach in the back line.
