On Monday, ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst attacked the Dallas Mavericks for a crucial element of the Luka Doncic transaction.
Since the news broke in early February, the Mavericks’ choice to deal Doncic has been widely criticized by both fans and the media. Since then, Mavericks supporters have been demanding that general manager Nico Harrison be fired, thus nothing has changed.
The Lakers will make their first trip to Dallas since the deal on Wednesday. During Monday’s episode of “First Take,” the impending battle was discussed.
On the podcast, Windhorst criticized the Mavericks for not pressuring the Lakers to include breakout player Austin Reaves in the deal they got for Doncic.
“I know we’re all going to focus on Luka, as we should,” said Windhorst. “But the Mavericks not getting Austin Reaves in that trade is malpractice! … Austin Reaves has been awesome in this last month, especially in these last couple of weeks when LeBron hasn’t been great. The fact that the Mavericks didn’t get Austin Reaves in that trade remains insane, and Reaves is just proving it night in and night out.”
