There are several (literally) incentives for Jameis Winston to be selected as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants in 2025.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer revealed some intriguing details about veteran quarterback Winston’s new deal with the Giants on Monday. According to reports, Winston’s contract includes an incentive plan worth up to $4 million.
According to Breer, Winston has $250,000 incentives (each) for 43 percent, 50 percent, 60 percent and 70 percent playing time. He also has individual $250,000 incentives for reaching certain statistical benchmarks (namely, a 92.5 passer rating, a 65 percent completion percentage, 15-plus TDs with an 88.0 passer rating, and 2,200 passing yards with a 88.0 rating).
On top of that, the former Pro Bowler Winston reportedly has individual $500,000 incentives for 50 percent playing time plus reaching the playoffs, 70 percent playing time plus reaching the playoffs, 55 percent playing time in a playoff win after 30 percent playing time in the regular season, and 55 percent playing time in two playoff wins after 30 percent playing time in the regular season.
After spending last season with the Cleveland Browns, the 31-year-old Winston signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the Giants this offseason. That includes $5.25 million guaranteed as well as a $2 million signing bonus.
Winston will have an opportunity to start in New York the following season, but Russell Wilson, another quarterback, will be in his way. In addition to having a unique incentive system based on playing time, performance, and team success, 10-time Pro Bowler Wilson joined the Giants this offseason.
