Holmgren sustained the injury during a game against the Golden State Warriors on November 10, 2024. The 7-foot-1 center fell awkwardly after colliding with Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins while attempting to contest a layup. He remained on the floor in apparent pain before being helped off the court. Holmgren did not put any weight on his right leg and was later diagnosed with a right iliac wing fracture.

Impact on the Thunder

Holmgren’s absence is a significant blow to the Thunder, who have started the season with an impressive 8-2 record. He has been averaging 18.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game, making him a crucial part of the team’s success. Without Holmgren, the Thunder will need to rely on small-ball lineups and other players to fill the void left by their star center.

Recovery and Return Timeline

The Thunder announced that Holmgren is expected to miss at least 8-10 weeks and will undergo a return-to-play protocol. While the team is hopeful for his return this season, the exact timeline will depend on his recovery progress. Holmgren himself expressed a mix of frustration and determination in a social media post, acknowledging the challenges of the rehab process but also his commitment to getting back on the court.
