In recent discussions within the NASCAR community, sources have indicated that several teams are vying for coveted SHR charters. These charters grant teams guaranteed entry into Cup Series races and play a crucial role in team stability and financial viability. Who will take these VCharters after SHR decided to shut after 2024?

Front Row Motorsports, Known for their consistent presence in the Cup Series, Front Row Motorsports is set to obtain one of the Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) charters. Their commitment to the sport has earned them a spot at the table.

Trackhouse Racing, led by Justin Marks, is making its mark in NASCAR. Their acquisition of a charter will solidify their position as a competitive team.

The fourth charter remains shrouded in uncertainty. While the aforementioned teams are clear contenders, the identity of the fourth recipient remains elusive. Bob Pockrass shared a tweet which read, ” Sources indicate Front Row, 23XI and Trackhouse will each obtain one of the SHR charters. The fourth is more unclear. Legacy, RFK and JTG have all indicated interest in expanding but I do not expect them to be in play for any of the SHR charters (and JRM is not as well).”

SHR’s Exit from the Cup Series

SHR

Co-owners Tony Stewart and Gene Haas made the announcement after nearly a year of rumors surrounding SHR’s future. The four-car Cup team, which currently fields the Nos. 4, 10, 14, and 41 Fords, will close its operation at the end of the 2024 season. This decision did not come easily, as racing demands unwavering commitment and vast resources. However, the time has come for Stewart and Haas to pass the torch.

Stewart and crew chief Darian Grubb dominated the 2011 NASCAR Playoffs, winning five of the ten races, including the season finale. Their tiebreaker victory over Carl Edwards (a future NASCAR Hall of Famer) secured SHR’s first Cup Series championship.

While the first three charters are spoken for (Front Row Motorsports, 23XI Racing, and Trackhouse Racing Team), the identity of the fourth recipient remains uncertain. Legacy Racing, RFK Racing, and JTG Daugherty Racing have all expressed interest in expansion, but the competition is fierce. Additionally, wildcard entries from Andretti Autosport or Richard Childress Racing (RCR) could further shake up the landscape.
